Imagining and practicing the post-pandemic urbanity [IBB workshop]

We are pleased to announce that Into the Black Box will take part to next Summer School in Global Studies and Critical Theories that will take place from June 21st to July 2nd, 2021.

This year the topic of the school is the political imagination after Covid-19. We will contribute with a workshop and a public event.

Workshop “Imagining and Practicing the Post-Pandemic Urbanity: Planetary Logistics, Digital
Platforms, Social Movements”

June 22-24,

5:00-6:45 pm

A participatory workshop called “Imagining and practicing the post-pandemic urbanity: planetary logistics, digital platforms, social movements” structured around three sessions. The aim of the workshop is to present some hints and hypothesis around the tendencies and the ways in which urban settings are restructuring and re-shaping within and beyond the pandemic along three main concepts (logistics, platforms, movements), and to work with students to develop collective pilots, projects and ideas

Day 1 // Planetary Logistics (Mattia Frapporti)

What is the link between the ancient British East India Company and the contemporary Belt ad Road initiative prompted by China? The three-days seminar by Into the Black Box will start with a focus on planetary logistics. From genealogical trajectories to contemporary snapshots, we will delve into the political side of logistics.

Day 2 // Planetary Urbanization (Niccolò Cuppini)

The second day of the workshop will focus on the presentation and discussion of some provocative insights for a new understanding of the urban. Genealogical episodes, contemporary challenges and future perspective of urban transformation will be elaborated through the lenses of struggles and infrastructures.

Day 3 // Movements and Urbanity (Maurilio Pirone)

Platforms represent a supposed disruptive business model that found in urban spaces the perfect place where to develop. We will analyse the relationship between this form of enterprise – that condenses all the capitalist operations into one institution – and the emerging forms of resistances generated into the city.
